UV rays whether obtained out in the sun or in a Solarium can cause skin cancer. There are two types of UV rays that tan you. UVA is the ray that turns the melanoyctes or tanning cells brown. The UVB ray is the ray that starts the tanning process. The UVB ray in a Solarium is only 2% but out in the sun it can be as high as 17%. The UVB ray causes the burning. The UVA ray is 5 times stronger than the midday sun in a Solarium. But you are in the Solarium for 6 to 12 minutes only three times a week for 3 weeks to obtain the tan then once a week for maintenance. Many people stay out in the sun for hours on end day after day.
It is UV radiation that causes cancer whether it be in a Solarium or in the sun. Responsible and controlled tanning is best way to tan.
Using a Solarium is more controlled than out in the sun!
